Languages (Indonesian)

Indonesian is taught from Foundation to Year 6 with classes having the equivalent of one lesson each week. This subject covers both language acquisition and cultural awareness.

The Indonesian language program gives students an introduction to the national language and culture of our closest neighbour.

All students from Foundation to Year 6 participate in Indonesian immersion sessions through daily practice and weekly focus sessions. This is taught by the classroom teacher during a dedicated time scheduled in the weekly timetable. Teachers are supported by the School’s Languages Co-ordinator and Department of Education approved resources.

Students are provided with opportunities to develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to:

  • communicate effectively by speaking basic Indonesian
  • develop their intercultural capabilities through an understanding of the language and culture, and how they relate to each other in communication
  • foster a deeper appreciation and respect for diversity and differences of other cultures
