Teaching and Learning @ WEPS
To ensure consistency and an evidence-based approach, we implement whole-school Instructional Models for Literacy, Maths, and all other subject areas. From Foundation to Year 6, these models are embedded in every classroom and every lesson, aligning teaching practices with how students learn best, and driving improved outcomes for all.
Our explicit teaching model is based on the evidence-based Gradual Release of Responsibility framework. This four-step approach — I do, We do, You do together, You do — moves from teacher-led instruction to guided practice, collaborative learning, and independent work, supporting student engagement, collaboration, and deep understanding.
What is differentiation?
Differentiation at WEPS ensures all students have equitable access to learning through targeted support and responsive teaching. Teachers provide and gradually remove scaffolds to build confidence, independence, and success for every learner. Following explicit instruction, students apply their knowledge and skills to new and increasingly complex situations, demonstrating mastery through problem-solving and real-world tasks.
