Humanities – First Nations and Global Perspectives
As your child embarks on their education journey, they will delve into the fascinating world of Humanities with a focus on both Global Studies and First Nations Perspectives. This subject offers rich learning experiences designed to broaden your child’s understanding of the world around them, from their local community to the global stage.
Global Studies
Students will develop important lifelong skills such as empathy, critical thinking, communication, cultural awareness, and a global citizenship. They will be inspired to become informed and engaged citizens who contribute positively to their communities and world.
In the early years, students will focus on understanding their immediate surroundings- their home and community as they learn about the people, places and traditions that make their community unique whilst developing a sense of belonging and identity.
As students’ progress through the primary years, they will expand their focus beyond their immediate surrounding to explore different countries, cultures, societies and environments around the globe.
Students are encouraged to be curious about the wider world, think critically, ask questions and explore their own values and beliefs.
First Nations Perspectives
Exposure to and engagement with Koorie, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage will enrich all Australians and strengthen our unique identity.
Through resources developed by and alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Humanities: First Nations Perspectives is designed to introduce students from Foundation to Grade 6 to the diverse cultures, countries, places, histories, arts, communities, people and contemporary issues of Australia’s First Nations peoples from First Nations Perspectives. This supports our aim of fostering a deep appreciation for an understanding of First Nations perspectives while promoting respect, empathy and reconciliation.
